"Those who build walls are their own prisoners." -Ursula K. LeGuin, The Dispossessed

Some real-world hopepunk: A landmark longitudinal study of 25,000 randomly sampled Australian adults over a period of 14 years found a strong link between hope and better contemporary and future outcomes:

People with high levels of hope have higher levels of wellbeing, education, earning and employment outcomes, perceived and objective health indicators, and are much more likely to have friends and less likely to be lonely.

The study further asserts that hope is malleable over the course of life, and can be learned. While current events do their level best to crush our spirits, this is an encouraging reminder that we are not at their mercy; we do have agency, and we can push back.

New Acqusition: The Sins of the Father

We are pleased to announce the sale of Ian Patterson’s THE SINS OF THE FATHER, a politically-engaged speculative fiction novella that explores an America where women have achieved parthenogenesis.

Production Updates

Production on Lauren C. Teffeau’s ACCELERATED GROWTH ENVIRONMENT continues apace: final edits are in and preview ebook and print galleys have been built. We’re approving select early reviewers on NetGalley now, and will start casting a wider net in December. Look forward to a cover reveal and ARC announcement early next year!

Additionally, cover and interior design for Emily O’Malley Liu’s THE MAN IN THE GARDEN HOUSE are well underway, and the creative brief and editorial process for Millie Abecassis’s THE COLOR OF TIME has just begun.
